Thanksgiving to God for our Election
Intro
A. RESPONSIBILITY OF GIVING THANKS TO GOD (2 Thess. 2:13).
1. When? Cf. 1 Thess. 1:2; 2 Thess. 1:3.
2. For whom?
a. brethren
b. beloved by the Lord
B. REASONS FOR GIVING THANKS TO GOD (2 Thess. 2:13-14).
1. God chose you (2 Thess. 2:13).
a. “chosen” 1 Thess. 1:4
b. When? From the beginning. Eph. 1:4, Rev. 13:8.
What about the ESV – “firstfruits”?
c. Purpose? For salvation. 1 Thess. 5:8-9.
d. Means of our salvation (2 Thess. 2:13b).
(1) sanctification by the Spirit (2 Thess. 2:13b).
(2) faith in the truth (2 Thess. 2:13b).
2. God called you (2 Thess. 2:14a).
a. Effectual call –
b. Thru gospel preaching. Jas. 1:18; 1 Pet. 1:23
3. God will glorify you (2 Thess. 2:14b).
a. Gain the glory.
b. The eternal span of our salvation

For discussion: What can we learn about giving thanks from this passage? Why should we give thanks to God for choosing us? Calling us? Glorifying us? How can we develop a more consistent practice of giving thanks to God?
